Wow, it's hard for a lot of artists to make ONE double album which is consistently brilliant let alone two. But I guess Azra weren't just random artists, these dudes knew what they were doing! In my opinion this is easily rock's greatest double album as every song is a songwriting masterpiece of its own exhuming energy and passionate expressions which are very rarely heard.
It's a lot more "serious" than their previous stuff in a sense that it's noticeably more inspired both ideologically and musically. Still, it has those signature silly Azra moments like in the track ''Roll Over Jura'' or "68" or "'lepše nego nam" and so on... that work as the perfect contrast to more intense tracks.
Sonically I'd describe it as mixture of easy pop rock/new wave, dirty first wave punk rock, laid back dub/reggae, bouncy ska, happy balkan and melancholic anglo folk and old school rock'n'roll energy mixed with that abstract "something special" that seperates ever genius artist from a merely good one (and that something special appears in every single song!). Oh and the sax which appears through this album quite a lot is fantastically put to use, especially on "Ako znas bilo sto" which, while we're already talking about it, is one of those very unique atmospheric and chill inducing experiences, probably the best on the album if I'm being honest. Though "Tko to tamo pjeva", "Proljeće", "Ljudi Samoće", "Iran", "Kao ti i ja", "Naizgled lijepa", "Hladan Kao Led" , "Gomila nesklada" and the title track give it a run for its money!
Now I usually don't care for lyrics but it's always nice when they are this damn good and enjoyable. I'd say that Štulić's lyrics are the best here, a lot more critical and cynical than on their previous stuff which had themes of self loathing in a very humorous way, this one lacks those but gives you some things to genuinely think about through numerous witty one liners , my favourite one being:
"čini mi se rođače
da je standard pokvario ljude
jedu govna i sanjare"
(I mean come on, for those of you who understand it, you simply can't deny the greatness of this line AND there are many like it that appear though the run of this thing.)
Anyway, this is quite a superb album in every aspect (production full of character, charismatic vocals, interesting composition...all are top notch) and I suppose the only thing left for me to say is that you should listen to it as soon as you can!
