Review on THE METAL OBSERVER:
NAZCA is a relatively new Hard Rock formation from Le Tampon, Reunion Island, in the Indic Ocean (namewise the island and the town are great, can hardly get any better!). Founded in 1993 the guys only release their debut album ten years later via Brennus Music.
Ok, good things take their time and in the case of NAZCA the taking of their time was definitely worth it. The band orientates on the End-Eighties, Early-Nineties Hard Rock pearls of the better sort. So opener "The Great Masquerade" sounds like best PRETTY MAIDS fodder, while "Papers And Screens" reminds me a bit of SHADOW GALLERY because of its piano introduction and apart from that could without any problems have stood on "Stranger In Us All" (RITCHIE BLACKMORE'S RAINBOW). "Child Of Guyana" would have been a stand out track on American BATON ROUGE's "Shake Your Soul" album.
And so every song takes part of the history of commercial and highstanding Hard Rock. And even if it sounds as if the band stole elements all over, this is not the case. Sure, NAZCA don't reinvent the wheel, but fans of intelligently made, demanding Heavy stuff, which at times is a bit bluesy, then really rocking, but always with style and elegance, completely desisting unnecessary pomp, have to give this album a chance.
